Gaming grandma swatted while streaming to pay grandson’s medical bills

UNITED STATES, May 22 — QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (KPNX) - An Arizona grandmother who went viral for playing video games to help pay for her grandson’s medical bills says her home was swatted during a livestream fundraiser. Sue Jacquot, known online as “GrammaCrackers,” has built a following of more than 600,000 YouTube subscribers by making Minecraft videos with her grandsons, Jack and Austin Self.

The 81-year-old and her family recently began a 24/7 livestream fundraiser to help cover Jack Self’s medical expenses for cancer treatment. “He’s had 200 chemo treatments in like a year and a half, and that’s a lot of expensive bills that the insurance company won’t touch,” Jacquot said. The family had been streaming for nearly 15 continuous days when someone made a false report Monday that Jacquot had been shot and killed.

It was a swatting call, in which someone falsely reports a violent emergency to 911 in an attempt to prompt a large police response. “We got a call that Jack shot his grandma and killed her and that he was going to kill himself, and right then, I was like, ‘Whoa,’” Jack Self said. “It was kind of like a punch to the stomach.

” The family says more than a dozen Queen Creek police officers in full tactical gear swarmed the home. The livestream showed officers entering Jacquot’s room, where she was asleep, and waking her up. “They just sort of escorted me out, and they were apologizing,” Jacquot said.

“I just wondered what my grandkids had done. ” Despite the scare, Jacquot says she has no plans to stop streaming. “They’re not going to tell me what I can do.
