Fig. 1. — Dog shoots woman with a shotgun at Nebraska convenience store
Oddyist Archive EngravingUNITED STATES, May 26 — When police in Nebraska were responding to a shooting, they arrived at the scene to find an unusual culprit: a dog. The incident took place in the Scottsbluff town of Nebraska , where shots were fired in the parking lot of a local convenience store. As the police arrived at the scene, they found a truck with one of its doors damaged and a woman who had been struck in the arm by a shotgun pellet. An investigation into the matter showed that the woman had a loaded shotgun in the backseat of the car, which was inadvertently fired by her dog as it moved around on the seats. The shot ended up damaging the car and even struck a female passerby. The woman has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators said that the owner was in the store and had left their dog behind in the car while they were shopping. Details about the dog's breed or the charges against the owner are not known yet as the investigation is currently ongoing. The woman who was shot was a few yards away from the car at a nearby traffic signal. No other injuries were reported at the scene.
In a separate incident last month, police shot a woman in Omaha, Nebraska, after she slashed a young boy with a knife outside of a Walmart after taking him from another woman inside the store. The suspect approached a female shopper and a 3-year-old boy, then displayed a large knife she had shoplifted from the store and “took possession of the child, essentially kidnapping the child,” Deputy Chief Scott Gray said. They proceeded out of the store and down a driveway where the two women had “some verbal back and forth” for several minutes until officers arrived, Gray said. After receiving a 911 call, police arrived outside the Walmart and gave the suspect commands, at which point she began “swiping the knife at the child, cutting him across the face,” Gray said.
At least one officer fired at the suspect, and she died at the scene. Body-worn camera images police released show the woman raising a knife over the young boy sitting in a shopping cart as an officer aims a gun at her. The child was being treated at a hospital for a large laceration across the left side of his face and to a hand, Gray said. He is expected to survive.
