The Mirror US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is being dubbed a liar after he denied making statements about Black children having to be “reparented” in a podcast. Kennedy appeared before the House Ways and Means Committee to discuss his department’s budgets. However, the conversation was quickly overshadowed by previous controversial statements and questions over his qualifications to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

During questioning, Democratic Rep. Terri Sewell of Alabama asked Kennedy about a statement he made in 2024 in the “19Keys show” podcast, where he argued that Black kids on ADHD meds should be “re-parented.”

“In a 2024 podcast interview, you suggested that Black children on ADHD medication should be ‘re-parented,’” Sewell told Kennedy. “...them. Mr. Secretary , you've already admitted that you are not board-certified physician, and you've already admitted that you did not go to medical school. Have you ever reparented or parented, I should say, a black child?”

“I don’t even know what that phrase means,” Kennedy said. “I’m not going to answer something that I didn’t say.”

Kennedy then insisted that he did not make that statement, adding that he needed to hear recorded proof of the statement.

“You’re just making stuff up,” he said.

The health secretary indeed made the comments in the 2024 podcast, baselessly claiming that some medication, like Adderall, causes violence. At the time, he stated: “My uncle started the Peace Corps, he started the space program. My space program, my Peace Corps program is going to be wellness farms, rehabilitation facilities that I'm going to start in rural areas all over the country where people, any American can go for free, any of them who is dependent on drugs, either legal drugs or illegal drugs, psychiatric drugs, which every black kid is now Just standard put on Adderall, SSRIs, Bensos, which are known to induce violence,” Kennedy said in the podcast, speaking about a rehabilitation program proposal. “And those kids are going to have a chance to go somewhere and get reparented, to live in a community where there'll be no cell phones, no screens, you’ll actually have to talk to people,” he added.

He added that he received inspiration for the program from a rehabilitation community in Italy attended by a family member, San Padronados.

Users on social media were quick to call out Kennedy’s assertions that he did not make the comments.

“He’s a disgrace to the Kennedy name and family,” one X user said.

“He said it. He is a liar that just spouts s— and then when he has to answer for it he lies and says he didn’t say it,” another one commented.

“So either RFJ Jr. just lied to Congress or can’t remember his own words,” a third user argued. “Either way, he’s not fit for his job.”
